CASE STUDY QUESTION 48-Class X-Maths

Ravi went to stadium everyday to enjoy his summer vacation. In Stadium, there is a circular swimming pool with center O. The radius of pool is 7 m. There are 2 points on the wall of the pool separated by equal distance. These 2 points are named A and B. A rope is attached between A and B. This rope separates the shallow section of pool from deep section of pool such that ∠AOB = 900. The shallow section is the smaller section.

(i) What is the area of ∆AOB?
(a) 49 m2 (b) 24.5 m2
(c) 98 m2 (d) 140 m2
Area of ∆AOB = ½ × b × h = ½ × 7 × 7
= 24.5 m2

(ii) What is the area of minor sector AOB? (Use π = 22/7)
(a) 77 m2 (b) 38.5 m2
(c) 154 m2 (d) 70 m2

(iii) What is the area of Shallow?
(a) 28 m2 (b) 56 m2
(c) 14 m2 (d) 7 m2
Area of Shallow = Area of sector AOB – Area of ∆AOB
= 38.5 – 24.5
= 14 m2

(iv) What is the area of swimming pool?
(a) 77 m2 (b) 38.5 m2
(c) 154 m2 (d) 70 m2

(v) What is the area of deeper section?
(a) 77 m2 (b) 150 m2
(c) 154 m2 (d) 140 m2
Area of Deeper section = Area of swimming pool – Area of Shallow section
= 154 – 14
= 140 m2
