Proof of DNA as the Genetic Material – Experiment of Avery, MacLeod, and McCarty

Oswald Avery, Colin MacLeod, and Maclyn McCarty showed that DNA (and not proteins) can transform the properties of cells, clarifying the chemical nature of genes. Avery, MacLeod and McCarty identified DNA as the ‘transforming material’ while studying Streptococcus pneumoniae with the help of Griffith’s experiment.
